Real-World Learning

Research an exciting theory, strengthen your resume with an internship, and immerse yourself in a new culture by studying off campus. At F&M, we take your learning far beyond the classroom.

Research

Are there any theories or questions you’re eager to investigate? You can at F&M. The cornerstone of our educational experience is students working and learning side-by-side with faculty who want to help you test ideas — not just talk or read about them.

Internships

Get valuable hands-on experience now and gain a competitive advantage in the job market later. Internships allow you to explore fields and job functions of interest, building your portfolio while shaping and inspiring your path in both expected and unexpected ways.

Off-Campus Study

Off-campus study is an integral component of an F&M liberal arts education. In fact, more than 50% of F&M students engage in an off-campus experience. By studying off campus, you can get a head start in understanding cultural differences and strengthen your ability to successfully live and work in our increasingly global society.

Fellowships

Eager to continue your academic and professional development across the globe? Fellowships offer often-funded experiential learning opportunities such as advanced study, research, internships, service, travel, and more.

At F&M, you’ll find expert guidance and support in discovering and applying for fellowships.

Community-Based Learning

Community-based learning (CBL) links traditional classroom learning to real, hands-on experiences and learning in the larger community. CBL differs from voluntarism because students are prompted to intentionally reflect on their experiences and link their hands-on experience with their course’s readings and lectures. These activities provide students with experiences to test theories and ideas they learn in their course lectures and assignments. F&M’s Ware Institute frequently partners with F&M faculty to design a CBL course and find appropriate placements in the community for students.
