The Office of General Counsel

The Office of General Counsel (OGC) supports the mission of Franklin & Marshall College by providing solutions-oriented legal representation and advice that fosters sound decision-making in all College operations and ensures compliance with the higher education regulatory landscape.

Fostering Sound Decision-Making

The OGC’s ultimate goal is to ensure a campus environment where everyone can succeed by proactively engaging with the community to mitigate and manage risk through education, support and guidance.

The Office of General Counsel is available to provide advice and assistance to faculty, staff, and students who have legal concerns or questions, or in other situations that involve significant legal considerations and legal risks. OGC manages the response to all legal disputes, claims and complaints involving the college, including threatened and actual lawsuits in state and federal courts and charges from governmental agencies. The OGC is also charged with overseeing and partnering with all outside counsel retained on behalf of the college.  If you are contacted by an attorney in connection with your work for F&M, direct them to OGC and contact OGC as soon as possible. If someone threatens to file a claim or complaint against the college, contact OGC as soon as possible.
