Summer 2024 Lifelong Learning Courses
Visual Collections in the Phillips Museum and the College Library
- Instructors: Christopher Raab, Associate Librarian, Archives & Special Collections; Louise LoBello, Digital & Special Collections Librarian; Lindsay Marino, Director of the Phillips Museum of Art
- Course Schedule: Visual Collections in the Phillips Museum and the College Library took place on Tuesday afternoons from 2-4 p.m. The courses began on Tuesday, May 21, and concluded on Tuesday, June 11.
- Course Format: This course was offered on F&M's campus at the Martin Library of the Sciences and the Phillips Museum in the College's Steinman College Center.
- Enrollment Fee: This course cost $50 and included four in-person sessions and all course materials. Enrollment was limited to 15 individuals.
This course series explored the collections of F&M's Shadek-Fackenthal and Martin Libraries and the Phillips Museum. Using actual items from College's archives and permanent collections, participants learned about the history of photography, the printed book from 1500 to present, and discovered how posters were used as art and propaganda during World War II. Participants had the opportunity to learn more about the curatorial process at the Phillips Museum during this series.

What's real? What's fake?: Navigating Online in a Sea of (mis)Information

- Course Schedule: What's real? What's fake?: Navigating Online in a Sea of (mis)Information took place on Tuesday afternoons from noon - 1 p.m. The courses began on Tuesday, July 9, and concluded on Tuesday, July 23.
- Course Format: This course was offered virtually via Zoom.
- Enrollment Fee: This course cost $50 and included three virtual sessions and all course materials.
This course series provided participants with an introductory look into the exciting world of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. Over three weeks, participants explored common questions about AI, learned best practices for protecting themselves and their personal information when navigating the internet and discovered how to evaluate authenticity in online news and reporting.

- F&M’s Writing Center is available to both students and alumni for writing brainstorming, consultation and review.
- F&M’s music, theatre and dance performances as well as art and film exhibits are generally open to the public — and many events are free or available at a low cost for community members.
- Go Dips! Attend one of our hundreds of events each year for the 28 teams of Diplomat Athletics.
- Shadek-Fackenthal Library and the Martin Library of the Sciences are open to the public most hours. Students, faculty, professional staff and alumni can enjoy borrowing privileges with an F&M ID.
