Leyland Cypress (Cuprocyparis leylandii)

The leyland cypress is a hybrid of the Monterey cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) and the nootka false cypress (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis). It is a fast-growing tree with a tight pyramidal shape and has feathery blue-green needles. The leyland cypress is popularly used for hedging and screening purposes.

Characteristics: Needles are blue-green, flat, and feathery. Cones are dark brown, with 8 scales each. Bark is red-brown. This tree has a tight columnar shape and is very dense. It grows 60-70 feet high and 6-12 feet wide.

Cultivation Notes: Requires medium maintenance. Does best in full sun. Prefers moist and well-drained soils.
