Biography
Originally from Spain, where she got her B. A. in English at the University of Santiago
de Compostela (1995), Beatriz Caamaño Alegre obtained her Ph. D. (2004) in Spanish literature at Rutgers, The State
University of New Jersey.
Her dissertation dealt with the contradictions in the construction of femininity during
the Spanish II Republic and the Francoist dictatorship. She is currently researching
the representation of women in the collections of short novels that proliferated in
Spain at the beginning of the 20thcentury.
Beatriz Caamaño Alegre has published articles in Romance Notes,Letras Femeninas,Hispanófila, and theBulletin of Spanish Studies, among others.
At F&M, she teaches language, literature, and culture courses.
